Hello dear parents,
Welcome to the final week of the theme “Earth Treasures” we hope that you had a great week. We had a wonderful one filled with lots of fun and laugher.
This week’s report covers the following learning areas:
1. Science and environmental education
2. Mathematics
3. Ethics
4. Art and Craft
5. Project
6. Bible story
LINGUISTIC – Phonics
Each week, we begin our Linguistics lesson with phonics. We make it fun and interactive by playing a video by Teacher A on the smart board and dancing along as we repeat all the sounds. It is always enjoyable to see the children dance and imitate Teacher A.
SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES – Dinosaur homes
Our science and environemntal studies session for this week was so much fun. We gathered the children and welcomed each child by their name, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. After our greetings, we introduced an exciting new play corner: Dinosaur Nests!
To get started, we prepared a rhyme bag with all the children’s names and every child had a chance to select a name tag from the ryhme bag, the selected child gets a chance to make their own dinosaur nest, ensuring that every child got a chance to play and explore. To make the experience even more fun, we offered dinosaur toys for the children to play with in the nests they built.
As the children engaged in their play, we made sure to observe their interactions. We looked to see if anyone needed help, whether everyone was participating equally, and if they had everything they needed for their play.
When the free play and exploration time came to an end, we guided the children in tidying up their areas, reinforcing the importance of taking care of our learning space. It was a delightful day full of creativity and adventure.
MATHEMATICS – Pom Pom route on the wall
We gathered a small group of children around us to explore the wall and the colorful pompoms. We encouraged the children to take a close look at the pompoms, asking questions such as, "What colors do you see?" and "Are they all the same shape?" We prompted them to notice if the texture is the same on each pompom and to identify which ones are similar and which ones are different. The children loved having the opportunity to touch and explore the pompoms freely.
Next, we guided their attention to the wall and explained that we needed help finding the same painted foam cups as the pompom the teacher was holding. We asked the children if they could assist us in matching the colors. For example, we placed the blue pompom on the blue foam cup and continued this exercise with each color.
Afterward, we encouraged the children to test the color-matching route by themselves. They enjoyed naming the colors they had.
Once this small group finished their exploration, we invited another smaller group to take their turn with the wall and the pompoms, ensuring everyone had a chance to engage in this hands-on activity. It was a fun and interactive way for the children to learn about colors and textures.
ETHICS – My favourite book
The children had a great time paging through their favorite books that they brought from home and selected from the school library. We created a cozy reading corner in our classroom and invited a small group of children to gather around us with their favorite books. We took turns, allowing each child to present their book one at a time. As they did, we supported them by observing the covers together. We named different things we saw on the covers and encouraged the children to point to those items, making sure everyone waited for their turn to speak.
As we engaged with the children, we asked guiding questions and shared insights about the books, adapting our approach based on their speech development. For those who can not express themselves, we used yes or no questions so they could nod or shake their heads. For those who are more expressive, we offered simple, open-ended questions to encourage them to express their thoughts.
To create a supportive and encouraging environemnt, we applauded the children and offered positive comments to each child and their book. Once everyone had presented their books, we explored the stories together. We read some of the books and named various things on the pages, enhancing their understanding and enjoyment.
We then repeated this engaging activity with other small groups, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to share their favorite books. It was a wonderful way to promote literacy and communication skills among the children.
ART AND CRAFT – Colouring the dinosaur
We gathered the children around and welcomed everyone with enthusiasm. To kick off our dinosaur theme, we showed them an image of a dinosaur and sang the song “We Are the Dinosaurs” together.
After the song, we presented the template of a dinosaur and guided the children to sit around the table. We offered crayons and a dinosaur template to each child, allowing them to color their dinosaurs.
As they colored, we observed how the children held their crayons and offered support when needed. We noticed which hand they preferred to use or if they were still using both hands for coloring.
After we were done with our dinosaur art was ready, we invited the children to share what dinosaur they had colored and the colors they used.
Finally, we placed the finished dinosaurs in their portfolios, providing a special keepsake of their creativity. It was a wonderful and engaging activity that allowed the children to explore their artistic skills while learning about dinosaurs.
PROJECT – Colourful dinosaur eggs
Last we gathered a smaller group of children together and encouraged them to observe their surroundings to see if they could find anything unusual on the floor. After a little exploration, we discovered that there were some eggs! Excitedly, we encouraged the children to guess what the eggs might be, and we soon revealed that they must be dinosaur eggs. We shared that this month, we will be exploring the world of dinosaurs!
To add to the excitement, we presented our biggest dinosaur toy, and explained that the dinosaur had lost its eggs and needed help sorting them into their own nests by color. We had printed 4 large dinosaurs eggs in 4 different colours and explained that the colored sheets of A4 paper would serve as the dinosaur nests.
We invited one child at a time to pick up a colored egg from the floor and place it on the top of the correct nest. After each child successfully placed an egg, we applauded them with our special T-rex applause by keeping our elbows at our sides while clapping, mimicking a T-rex’s short arms!
If a child placed an egg in the wrong colored nest, we didn’t discourage; instead, we worked together to find the right nest for that egg. This was a great opportunity to explore the differences between the objects and learn together.
When all the children had a turn placing the eggs in the correct nests, we gathered to count how many eggs the dinosaur had. We counted all the eggs together, and we even counted how many red, blue, and yellow eggs there were.
To finish the activity, we celebrated by making as many dinosaur claps as there were eggs in the nests. It was a joyful and engaging way to learn about dinosaurs while practicing teamwork and counting skills.
The end!
Thank you for reading our weekly report. We hope you enjoy sharing in your child's learning experiences. Don't forget to look out for next week's report as we explore more exciting activities and learning adventures!
Warm regards,
